Welcome to Higher Process

About This Site

Higher Process is a website primarily about the intersections of time management and psychology. In addition, social science support (or lack thereof) for self-help, studies and theories of decision-making, and the field of project management will make frequent appearances.

About Max Leibman

Max Leibman supervises the imaging team in a survey research organization in the Midwest. He has studied psychology and research methods as an undergraduate, and plans to complete a BA in psychology in 2010. Max sits on the board of directors of Nebraska Leadership Seminar, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides leadership education and volunteerism opportunities for young people in Nebraska. His hobbies include reading, taking long walks, and writing bland biographies of himself in the third person.

About Everything Else

Disclosures (top)

Employment

As previously stated, I work for a survey research organization in the Midwest. My job is in operations; it includes supervisory, documentation, process-enhancement, and production roles.

The terms of employment at my company clearly state the company owns any intellectual property that I generate for the company or any of its clients. In order to protect my rights to this material, and to respect my employer’s right to control the disposition of its intellectual property, I will not be discussing my employment in any way, shape, or form on this site, with the exception of this disclaimer. I will avoid direct discussion of the merits of products or services created by my company or its employees, as well as those of direct competitors.

Gifts and Compensation

In keeping with a recent ruling by the FTC, this statement is a disclosure of gifts and compensation received for writing Higher Process: None.

I do not receive gifts or compensation of any kind from any blog, publication, author, institution, or company whose products or ideas are discussed in Higher Process. As of this writing, the only potential form of compensation is through advertising and affiliate links, discussed below.

Any books or products reviewed or discussed here represent evaluations of my own legally-purchased copy; a legally-purchased copy given as a gift by a friend, colleagues, acquaintance, or relative who is not affiliated with the author or manufacturer; borrowed form a lending institution (as in a library) or a friend, colleagues, acquaintance, or relative who is not affiliated with the author or manufacturer; or evaluated in a public setting or as part of a publicly-available trial offer.

In the event that an exception occurs, it will be noted in the relevant essay or page of this website. Any object without such disclosures must be assumed to belong to one of the above categories.

Intellectual Property (top)

Ownership

Any original writing or images contained on this site, including any and all original composition as well as the precise wording of any paraphrasing, is the exclusive property of myself, Max Leibman. All rights reserved. The ideas paraphrased, any text that is quoted from a third-party source, and any images borrowed from elsewhere, are TM and © their respective license holders.

The majority of the graphics used to illustrate posts are either generated by myself or downloaded from stock.xchng and used in accordance with their licenses. Graphics from other sources are used with the permission of their owners.

Use

Any of my intellectual property included on this website if freely available for you to read, download, save, or print. You may freely quote or use the work on your own website or publication, provided you credit me and include a link back to the original source.

While not strictly required, I would appreciate the observation of appropriate standards of blogging etiquette. (For example, quote a portion of the work, as opposed to quoting the entire essay and/or summarizing the entirety in detail without adding substantial comment of your own).

Citations

In all cases where I am knowingly using the intellectual property of another, I will credit the source and, where possible, include a hyperlink to the original item or to a more detailed reference.

At some time around the first of January, 2010, I plan to launch a “References" page on this site that will include APA-style citations for all external sources. In the meantime, I believe credit (including passing mentions) with a link fulfill the publicly-accepted standards for blogging practice as of this writing (late 2009).

Infringement

If you feel that any portion of this website in any way infringes upon your rights as an intellectual property holder, please contact me via my Contact page. I will be happy to work with you to find a resolution. It is not my intent to infringe the rights of holders of IP (I happen to belong to that class). I believe my usages all fall within both the law and acceptable public standards for the medium of blogging, but I take any legitimate claim to the contrary very seriously and will work to make it right.

Terms and Conditions (top)

If you, the user, reject any of the following terms, use or consumption of any portion of the content of Higher Process is strictly prohibited.

Waiver of Liability

By visiting, reading or otherwise using any portion of this site or its contents, you accept full responsibility for any damage caused to your person, equipment (including computer), property, or livelihood. You also accept full responsibility for any such damage caused to third parties through your use of this material.

Use of Advice or Psychology Research

Higher Process will frequently cite psychological research and discuss strategies intended to improve subjective and/or objective well-being. However, this site does not offer psychiatric, medical, legal, accounting, or other professional advice. If you are dealing with serious issues in any of these fields, you should consult your own expert before proceeding. By applying or attempting to apply any advice or techniques described on this website, you agree to accept full responsibility for any adverse affects.

Intellectual Property

By using the Contact form on this site, you grant me and any other contributors to Higher Process a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce any portion of your comments in any medium at any time for any purpose without notice or remuneration. Any original thoughts or compositions submitted via the Contact page of this site are subject to this condition, without exception. This agreement supersedes any disclaimer to the contrary that is submitted (and, in fact, any such disclaimer is also covered by this agreement).

Note that it is not my intention to use anything sent through the Contact page in a malicious way or for my personal gain; this is simply intended to protect Higher Process from abuse or from spurious claims made by someone who, coincidentally, submits an idea or thought I’ve already had. Whenever and wherever appropriate, I will give credit for any ideas or corrections.

Reading and Response

At the time of this writing, it is my intention to read all of the e-mail sent via the Contact page. I cannot promise this will always be the case, as time commitments and/or volume may, at some point, prevent me from fully considering all material that is submitted.

I regret that I might not respond personally to every message sent to me, so please do not be offended if I do not reply. In addition to maintaining the site, I do deal with large volumes of e-mail from several other sources. Also, if you are hoping for a real response, please ensure that you have provided a correct e-mail address.

Use of Your Information

Higher Process will never sell or deliberately disclose your contact information to a third party. This site will also not use e-mail addresses collected via the contact form to send commercial e-mail of any kind. This policy is subject to revision at any time, but will remain in effect as written for any e-mail addresses collected up until the time of the revision. Higher Process may use contact information provided to contact you regarding the contents of your message, or for noncommercial purposes germane to the content on the site.

Advertising Policy (top)

Higher Process currently features ads from Google’s AdSense network. I pay a monthly fee for hosting and often pay for materials that are used as sources for this site (not to mention spend many hours a week crafting content for the site); ergo, I would be remiss if I did not at least put in place the opportunity to recapture some money for the resources put into the site.

Note that my relationship is with Google, not the advertisers themselves. The advertisers and myself have no direct contact, and neither of us has explicitly or implicitly endorsed the other’s products, services, or information. Neither myself nor Higher Process bear any responsibility for any harm or losses incurred by clicking on an advertisement found on Higher Process or by agreeing to do business with the advertiser.

In addition, when discussing books or products that can be purchased from Amazon.com, I may create affiliate links. I receive a small commission each time a purchase is made following a click on one of these links. Any link from this website to a page on Amazon.com can be assumed to be an affiliate link; not all affiliate links are to works I agree with or recommend.

As with the Google Ads, Higher Process and myself are not responsible for any harm or loss incurred by clicking on one of the Amazon links, or by ordering, reading, or using any product thereafter.

About Page Feedback

As with everything else on this site, I welcome your feedback about this About page. Feel free to write to me via the Contact form.

Thanks for reading Higher Process!
